    Sustainable Materials

Sustainable products do not deplete or degrade the environment. We can rely on using these products into the future, at the same time reducing our environmental impact and ecological footprint.  All of these products are sourced with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certification.  This is a global certification system that lets the user identify materials from well managed forests and ensures a standard from timber and pulp up through the process chain, whilst offering full traceability.

    X

    Recycled

These items are made from materials that have been used at least once before and recycled into your packaging. Re-using materials in this way saves on virgin materials, cuts down the resources involved in sourcing raw materials and reduces landfill. Some of these products maybe be able to be re-used or recycled again.

    X

    Recyclable

These products can be recycled easily, alongside normal household recycling, so they do not need to end up in landfill. Recyclable products can then be made into something else, reducing landfill waste and saving on raw materials, all helping the environment.

    X

    Biodegradable

These products will rot away to nothing, within a few months rather than taking years or decades, not taking up space in landfill. They will do this without releasing toxic chemicals into the environment.

    X

    Plastic Free

These products do not contain any plastics made from fossil fuels. Instead, they use natural materials which will biodegrade easily without polluting the environment or making their way into the ocean.

    Self Adhesive Labels

    Bespoke Labels

Labels come in all shapes, sizes, colours and material. Labels are used on a massive array of items. Not many things don’t contain a label of some type these days.

Self Adhesive Labels (otherwise known as pressure sensitive labels) are made by printing onto a construction of 3 layers:

    • a release liner (otherwise known as the backing paper, carrier or glassine)
    • a layer of adhesive
    • the face material

Self Adhesive Labels use a pressure sensitive adhesive that is tacky in normal conditions, meaning the labels only need the pressure of a finger or hand to adhere to a substrate. This is why they are also known as pressure sensitive labels.

    Release liner
The release liner is commonly made of paper and is silicone coated on 1 side (occasionally 2) to enable the label to be removed cleanly from the liner. Increasingly, especially for some high volume applications where automated applicator machines are used to apply labels at high speed, plastics are used as a release liner as they do not tear and break as easily as paper. Of the major industry suppliers, UPM Raflatac are currently advocating Polypropylene (PP) based liners with their ProLiner product, and Avery Dennison prefer Polyester (PET) liners.
The vast majority of labels we sell is still paper based though, as it is the most established and proven product in the marketplace, and moving to a PP or PET liner generally results in an increase in cost, so you need to have a reason to specify it.

    Adhesives
In contrast to the choice of silicone liner, there are many different self adhesives to choose from, and making the correct choice is important if you want your label to stick!
