Honeycomb Wrap

Honeycomb wrap is a 100% recyclable and biodegradable alternative to bubble wrap, made entirely from Kraft paper. Supplied on a roll, it expands into a flexible honeycomb lattice that cushions and protects fragile items during shipping, without the need for plastic or tape.

Our Honeycomb Kraft Hivewrap is supplied as a 500mm x 250m roll. When expanded, each roll stretches to approximately 350 metres, making it a highly efficient use of storage space. Before expansion, the roll stores flat and takes up around 20 times less room than an equivalent amount of bubble wrap, which frees up valuable space in your despatch area.

The hexagonal cells stretch out to wrap around products of almost any shape and size, including awkward or irregular items. Once wrapped, the cells cling together naturally, so there is no need for tape or glue. This saves time during packing and means fewer consumables to manage.

What Is Honeycomb Wrap Used For?

Honeycomb wrap is designed for wrapping and cushioning individual items before they are placed into their outer packaging for shipping. It works particularly well for products that are fragile, easily scratched or irregularly shaped.

Common applications include wrapping ceramics, glassware, bottles, picture frames, ornaments and small electronics. The paper surface is smooth and will not scratch delicate finishes, which makes it a good choice for high-value or presentation-sensitive products where the unboxing experience matters to your customer.

Because the honeycomb cells expand and conform to the shape of whatever is being wrapped, it is also useful for items that are difficult to protect with flat sheets of paper or tissue. The three-dimensional structure provides a cushioned layer of protection that absorbs minor impacts during transit.

Why Choose Honeycomb Wrap Over Bubble Wrap?

For businesses looking to reduce plastic in their packaging, honeycomb wrap is one of the most practical alternatives to Bubble Wrap. It provides comparable cushioning for most lightweight and medium-weight items, while offering several additional benefits.

No tape needed. The honeycomb cells interlock when pressed together, so the wrap holds itself in place. This speeds up the packing process and removes the need for a separate tape dispenser at each packing station.

Compact storage. A single roll of honeycomb wrap stores flat and takes up around 20 times less space than bubble wrap. For businesses where despatch area floor space is at a premium, this can be a significant practical advantage.

Easy to use. The paper tears off cleanly by hand, with no need for scissors or a knife. It is quick to learn and does not require any specialist equipment or training.

Fully recyclable. Honeycomb wrap can be recycled with standard household paper and cardboard. There is no need for your customers to separate it from their normal recycling, which makes disposal simple and straightforward.

Bubble wrap does still offer slightly more impact absorption for heavier or more fragile items, so the right choice depends on what you are shipping. For most e-commerce products and general despatch, honeycomb wrap performs well and carries the added benefit of being completely plastic-free.

A Sustainable Packaging Choice

Honeycomb wrap is made from renewable Kraft paper and is fully biodegradable. It contains no plastic, no adhesives and no coatings, which means it breaks down naturally and can be composted as well as recycled.

For businesses that are subject to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax, switching from bubble wrap to honeycomb wrap removes the product from scope entirely, since it contains no plastic content. Even for businesses below the tax threshold, reducing single-use plastic in your supply chain can be a meaningful step towards meeting sustainability targets or responding to customer expectations around eco-friendly packaging.

Your customers will also appreciate receiving their order in packaging that is easy to recycle. This can have a positive effect on brand perception, particularly for businesses selling directly to consumers online.

How to Use Honeycomb Wrap

Using honeycomb wrap is straightforward. Pull the paper from the roll, stretch it out gently and the flat sheet will expand into its characteristic honeycomb pattern. The more you stretch, the wider the cells open and the more cushioning the wrap provides.

Wrap the item by folding or rolling the expanded paper around it. The honeycomb cells will naturally grip together, holding the wrap in place without tape. For items that need extra protection, simply add a second layer.

Once wrapped, items can be placed into a Postal Box, Mailing Bag or other outer packaging for shipping. Any gaps in the box can also be filled with loosely scrunched honeycomb paper, which works effectively as a void-fill material.
