Grip Seal Bags

What Are Grip Seal Bags?

Grip seal bags, also known as resealable bags, grip bags or gripper bags, are clear polythene bags with an interlocking plastic seal strip along the opening. Pressing the two sides of the strip together creates an airtight, moisture resistant closure that can be opened and resealed many times without losing its grip. This makes them different from single-use polythene bags, which need to be taped, or heat sealed shut and cannot be resealed once opened.

The bags are made from low density polyethylene (LDPE), a flexible, food-safe plastic that is widely recycled. The 160-gauge (40 micron) thickness used in our standard range provides enough strength to hold small to medium weight items without tearing, while remaining flexible enough to conform to the shape of the contents.

Common Uses for Resealable Bags

Grip seal bags are used across a wide range of industries and applications. Their combination of clarity, reusability and moisture resistance makes them one of the most versatile packaging options available.

Retail and e-commerce: Grip bags are widely used to package small items such as jewellery, beads, buttons, cosmetics, phone accessories and craft supplies. The clear material allows customers to see the product without opening the bag, and the resealable closure keeps items secure during storage and display.

Storage and organisation: Self seal bags are a practical solution for sorting and storing small parts, screws, bolts, fixings, stationery and hobby materials. The resealable closure allows repeated access, and the bags can be labelled with a marker pen or adhesive label for identification.

Despatch and fulfilment: Resealable polythene bags are commonly used as inner packaging within larger parcels, keeping individual items separated and protected. They are particularly useful for multi-item orders where each product needs its own protective layer.

Food packaging: LDPE grip seal bags are food safe and suitable for dry food items such as sweets, dried herbs, spices, tea and coffee samples. The airtight seal helps to preserve freshness between uses.

Choosing the Right Size

Choosing the right size grip seal bag helps protect your items and avoids wasted space. As a general rule, select a bag that gives the contents a small amount of room on each side. This allows the seal strip to close properly without the contents pressing against it, which can weaken the closure over time.

For very small items such as jewellery findings, beads and screws, our smallest sizes from around 2 inches wide are a good starting point. If you are unsure which size is right for your products, request a free sample and test the fit before committing to a bulk order.
