E-Commerce Crash Lock Boxes

Our crash lock boxes are self-erecting cardboard boxes with a crash lock base that snaps into shape without tape. Each box features a peel-and-seal closure strip on the lid, making them quick to pack and tamper evident in transit. They are made from single wall corrugated cardboard, which provides good protection while keeping weight and postage costs down. Available in eight sizes and supplied flat packed, they are suitable for e-commerce despatch, subscription boxes, retail fulfilment and general mailing.

All of our crash lock boxes are 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable, with no plastic tape or adhesive required during assembly or sealing. The self-locking base and integrated seal strip mean your packing team can assemble, fill and seal each box in seconds, which makes a real difference at volume.

Our eco-friendly, e-commerce crash lock boxes are self-erecting and easy to assemble. Simply push the opposite corners of the box towards each other to lock the base in place, wiith no need for additional tape.

What Are Crash Lock Boxes?

Crash lock boxes are a type of cardboard box with a base that locks into position when you push two opposite corners towards each other. The base panels fold inward and interlock automatically, forming a rigid, flat bottom without the need for tape or manual folding. This is where the name comes from: the base “crashes” into its locked position in a single movement.

This self-erecting design makes crash lock boxes significantly faster to assemble than standard slotted boxes, where you would normally need to fold and tape the base flaps before packing. For businesses processing high volumes of orders, this time saving adds up across every parcel. The crash lock base also creates a stronger, more uniform base than hand-folded flaps, which helps protect the contents during transit and stacking.

How the Peel-and-Seal Closure Works

Our crash lock boxes feature an integrated peel-and-seal strip on the lid flap. Once you have packed the contents, simply fold the lid closed and press the adhesive strip down to create a secure, tamper evident seal. There is no need for packing tape, a tape gun or any other sealing equipment.

The seal is strong enough to hold during transit but opens cleanly when the recipient pulls the tear strip, giving a neat unboxing experience. This is particularly valued by e-commerce businesses and subscription box services where the presentation of the package matters to the customer. Because the seal is tamper evident, it is also easy to see if a box has been opened or interfered with during delivery.

Common Uses for Self-Seal Boxes

E-commerce and online retail: Crash lock boxes are widely used by online retailers for shipping individual orders. The quick assembly and integrated seal make them practical for businesses processing high volumes of parcels daily. The clean, professional appearance also supports a positive unboxing experience for the customer.

Subscription boxes: The tamper evident seal and consistent box shape make crash lock boxes a popular choice for subscription services. Each box arrives looking neat and unopened, which is important for building trust with subscribers.

Fulfilment and despatch: For fulfilment centres and warehouse operations, the self-erecting base eliminates the time spent taping box bottoms. This reduces packing time per order and cuts down on consumables such as tape rolls.

Retail and gift packaging: The plain Kraft exterior of our crash lock boxes provides a clean surface for branded stickers, labels or stamps, making them a practical option for small businesses that want a professional look without the cost of custom printed packaging.

Crash Lock Boxes vs Standard Postal Boxes

Standard postal boxes, such as the PiP compliant boxes in our Postal Boxes range, are designed primarily for cost-effective posting through the Royal Mail network. They are sized to meet specific postal tier thresholds and are assembled by folding and tucking the panels into place.

Crash lock boxes offer a different set of advantages. The self-erecting base is faster to assemble, the peel-and-seal closure removes the need for tape, and the tamper evident seal provides an added layer of security. If speed of packing, presentation and a tape-free process are priorities for your operation, crash lock boxes are the better choice. If your primary concern is meeting Royal Mail PiP size thresholds to minimise postage costs, our Postal Boxes range may be more suitable.
